Lewis Carroll

"To me it seems that to give happiness is a far nobler goal that to attain it: and that what we exist for is much more a matter of relations to others than a matter of individual progress: much more a matter of helping others to heaven than of getting there ourselves."

Intimacy

There's a thing I've noticed about humanity.
Some of us depend on each other greatly,
and there's this inner connection,
an inner connection that I call intimacy.

A lot of the time we think of it with a sexual connotation.
I guess it's just how it's used in most.
But I think there's a more broad sense to it,
even to go farther than one would expect with the word.

If intimacy is an inner connection between us humans,
and us humans have negative aspects to human relations;
then intimacy isn't always necessarily good.

We human beings use each other to satisfy our own desires,
and on top of it being bad, it's understandable.

Love, I believe, should be the exact opposite.
Love is laying down your own desires for the good of the subject of love.
Love is not expecting anything and shouldn't be dependent on circumstances.
True love therefore is like joy; it's unconditional.
Affection is therefore like happiness.

War, I believe, is in a sense intimate, but to the opposite extent.
Conflicts may be born because one is lonely, or one desires human interaction.
One may create an imbalance in order to get some love, love of course, in a backwards way.

We think we're so smart and so righteous in our thoughts, but then later we find out that's we're fools.
It's deadly, pride is.

So, just like the Beatles, All we need is love.
All we need is love...
All we need is love, love...
Love is all we need.

And what better way to ignite love than unity?
And what better way to constitute unity than destruction,
the destruction of evil through it's producer, ignorance.

We can change the world through love and understanding, but still, we're all missing hope and motivation. We lazy beings will never do anything but indulge ourselves and waste others if we can't learn what truly satisfies the soul.

We need to get intimate for the sake of humanity...
We need to be able to break past barriers and become one as a race.
We need to learn how to put good above our selfish desires.

But the temporary high is more pleasing...
believing in yourself if more worth believing in the truth...
and we're all just animals anyways...right?

So will you play in our little letter game?

This post is great. I'm just so tired of things being so complicated you know? Love, for instance, talked about and talked about and discussed over and over again, and yet at the end, I still don't understand it all. All this thinking, all this fighting, it is a difficult lifestyle. It comforts me to read your posts and feel like I'm seeing the truth.

intimacy is such a broad word...killing someone could be intimate, your seeing your victim in a way they've never been seen before, your close to them... looking into someones eyes, or sex is intimate as well... love and war
you need the positive kind of intimacy to change the world... so ya, love.
...but its true, 'the temporary high is more pleasing'. and we are just animals.... but everything is just a thing or just an animal so is it worth it?

Love is really complicated since there are so many ways one can have the feeling of love. So i can't really say love.... or love is being... intimacy is i guess what you said. Not really sure. Feelings to me are hard to describe. I like how you explained it though.

I find that intimacy can be one of the downfalls that you have spoken about. So many of our actions to supposedly find love are based upon our intimacy. We are simply thinking this person is hot on the outside, so maybe they will go out with me. Petty and shallow. But we can consider the fact that love and intimacy are not necessarily opposite, but a branch of one another regardless of their incredibly different meanings. For example, you can sit on a chair, but you could also sit on the couch or bed. It just depends on the idea that you have set forth. Love is not exactly the opposite, but intamicy is more of a means of feeling something on the outside. We are just animals though. The only difference is, our minds are able to comprehend more and we feel things more than what other supposed animals are. Yet we are fools in the sense of finding our way better or right, which in some aspects are true, but for the most part are a downfall. Its almost like a specialized post on the seven deadly sins about mainly lust, with a tiny bit of sloth there. Have fun and hope all is well.

The letter game I discussed in our email. The game in which we write letters to people in power to gain some level of influence. Terrin is on board, and so is James, and I think you would make a great addition to our little team.

How interesting.
I always knew (or thought I knew) that intimacy entailed more than just sex and closeness; but I never thought of the negative aspects that could be included in intimacy.
S’pose all things are (can be) a double edge sword.

Becoming intimate with someone, or even something, is relatively easy…relatively
Loving, and keeping that love, is relatively difficult…in most cases.

If only mending problems were not as troubling……

Enjoyable as always Philosopher.
